Time to pick up the pen again. Let the flood gates spring open. The rushing waters were too much to contain. Oh, how I have missed typing these keys to let my mind flow!!!
For those of you venturing over from Baby In Beantown, a huge “Welcome Back!” sign is bursting with bold acrylic paints at the top of this page for you. No, I didn’t run off to be with Florence and The Machine on tour. No, the family didn’t move to an exotic Caribbean island Blue Lagoon style (although I wish I could look like Brooke Shields’ effortless beauty). No, America’s Next Top Model did not uncover their new leading lady (insert the most ridiculous amount of sarcasm here). Instead, I fell in love.

I know this may be that super awkward, first time meeting the parents kind of introduction where no one knows where this is going, but bare with me. It’s worth it. See I ran off with a man called Canon Rebel T2i and I haven’t been able to keep my hands off of him ever since we met back on that dreamy Christmas morning 2010. He a strayed me from a new-found passion of blogging about my perfectly imperfect little family on Baby In Beantown for the first 18 months of Lyla’s life. A passion that was helping me to discover more about my blossoming self than I had ever known to exist. Super Mom. Appreciative Neighbor. Humorous Wife. Giving Citizen. Hopeful Leader. Loving Friend. Sprouting Photographer. Creative Writer. Somehow the little-blog-that-could led me to realize I could paint words onto a screen with accompanying photographs by simply telling our story. I don’t believe my Thermodynamics teacher at a prestige Engineering university thought I ever had it in me. I don’t believe I actually passed Thermodynamics either.
The more I got into the Milky Way of photography’s depth of available information, the less time I had to peck away at the keyboard on my personal life to share. I was already cutting it close with a husband to spend quality time with, a baby to nurture, a hell of a laundry pile to keep up with, an attempt to cook, some sort of therapy appointment to remember everyday, and 5 minutes to shower and throw your wet hair in a bun. Somehow, some way, you always figure it out. I believe that’s the Mom Code -- am I right mamas??
But eventually there wasn’t a way, and photography fully took over all creativity cells I possessed in my 30 year-old body. Scraping the sides of my brownie mix bowl of any ooey gooeyness sugar energy I had to give towards the racing hours I was awake in the day. Long evenings at “night school” once Lyla went to bed to hit up digital photography sites online from my home office (aka recliner) well into the wee hours of the night. (It’s sort of comical how many mornings Troy found me asleep in the living room, sitting fully upright, laptop open on my thighs, neck hurting like a son of a b*tch when I awoke.) More and more clients pouring in during the freeing weekends to fill a portfolio. Learning the intricacies of Photoshop from video tutorial pros much like Bob Ross with his giant easel -- you know, the guy with a bodacious afro who made painting Evergreens look like brushing your teeth?? Yeah, that guy.
And sure enough, Jecca D Photography was born. A love child if you will. (Don’t worry. My husband knows, and he’s totally cool with it in that 70’s hipster style he likes to call his own.)
I’ve nursed her through infancy, went through some teething growing pains, and now she’s up and walking. Nope, actually -- running. Sprinting haha. So now that we’ve got Jecca D on her feet, I felt like it was my duty to return back to my first creative love of writing. A perfect way to compliment the eye-opening stories of my photography sessions, showcase QUALITY photos unlike the butchering ways of Facebook’s photo uploader, and interject Baby in Beantown’s style with updates on Troy, Lyla, and I’s adventure across this colorful journey of life through pictures.
Everyone knows the saying “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Well, I want to cash in. It’s time to tell the stories that these picturesque scenes are worth. And I’d really like it if you’d lend your ears (doh! eyes) to see what the world is like for others. To know we’re not alone, to know we’re not above anyone. To know that each of us are unique in our own right. To know what the world is like through someone else’s eyes. And maybe to teach us as a whole what it’s all about --
Please follow this joyously excited girl scout leader on a photography adventure that’s sure to tell quite a story. Some pictures will only need 5 words displayed and leave you to figure out the 995 remaining. Some I will not be able to stop my fingers in clicking out 1000 words with raging waters of emotion just flowing. Either way, we’ll all walk away with a different view. A different story. A different spin that may lead you in directions you never knew existed.
I welcome you to Jecca D Photography’s blog. I plan to write as much as I possibly can, especially with a photo project on the horizon attempting to post your best picture of everyday life, EVERYDAY in 2012. It’s a 365 Project if you will. I’m already calling it -- think it will be more like a 52 Week Project for myself, but I swear to Bob Ross I will do the best I can.
Thank you everyone for your interest in Jecca D!
And just for the record, this was 1000 words on the dot. Boo ya!
I love that your new camera is called T2i !! COINCIDENCE? I think not.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I never put that together Gretchen!!! That's a definite "woah"moment. Meant to be, meant to be.
ReplyDeleteLove it Jess...can't wait to read more and more!!
ReplyDeleteHi there! I follow your photography via facebook, although I can't recall how I first came across your page. But I love love love seeing all the beautiful photographs you post. I live in Massachusetts as well, just North of Boston. Anyway, I followed the link you posted today here and then went back and read your Baby in Beantown blog and I see that you have a Lyla Jane...I have a Lilah Jayne! LOL! My Lilah is 9 or 10 months older than your daughter. I saw from the photos on your other blog that they share a similar wardrobe :) Your sweet girl is just BEAUTIFUL! Such a little doll!
ReplyDeleteI hope to someday have you photograph my family, perhaps this summer. In the meantime, I look forward to enjoying your beautiful work more regularly on your new blog!
Can I just say, I love you. I am so happy to know you, Im sad that you and your precious family are now so far way but honored to be able to learn about you all thru facebook and your blogs from afar! Your so talented and have such a passion for everything! Hope to one day share a bottle of wine and some conversation with you and Troy once again, and finally meet Ms. Lyla :)
ReplyDeleteMama -- Lilah Jayne, are you serious??! That's way too cool. I really hope to meet my Lyla's Boston twin one day!!! I would be honored to photograph your family. Please let me know.
ReplyDeleteSarina-- we miss you guys so much too. I just cannot believe how big your kids are getting!!! We're coming back down in May for the Hangout Fest. I'd love to stop by and catch up.
You are friggen amazing....can't wait to read more...and see more (of you guys and the pics!) -Maryanne :P
ReplyDeleteWow! You seriously just started taking pictures last year? I’m jealous! I have the T1i and have slowly learned how to use and can finally do custom WB and shoot in manual but my pics look nothing like yours! Beautiful! And girl, you can write! I’m excited to follow along!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have a 9 year old daughter with Ds. I think I need to upgrade to the T2i just to show her the love! Not that I want a higher ISO option!
I love the Rebel line, but the best thing I did was invest in lenses. If you're shooting with the kit lens, the best investment you can make that won't break the bank is the 50mm 1.8 lens that's around $100. I splurged and went for it's older cousin the 50mm 1.4, but the difference is slight to the untrained eye. I would recommend glass over upgrading your camera body any day. Have fun!
